Statement of Purpose
This website started as a place to host pictures for a trip to the Yosemite Valley in the summer of 2006. As I begin to post the pictures up I began wanting to do something a little bit more. I wanted this site to be more than just pictures, I wanted to delve into Yosemite's history in a scholarly way like I had been wanting to for the last five years. There were some other things I wanted to do that I haven't seen other Yosemite sites do: the inclusion of serious articles about Yosemite related topics, an analsyis of Yosemite Indian mythology, and basically, general intellectual material relating to Yosemite.

Site Description
- The Photo Gallery is pretty self-explanatory. The pictures from summer 2006 are posted here, so just take your time, start with your favorite section of the valley and begin exploring. By no means is this section complete since there's more to Yosemite National Park than the Valley itself. There are no pictures of Tuolomne Meadows, for example, or any of the landmarks in the vincity such as Gaylor Lake, Lembert Dome, May Lake, Glen Aulin, etc. I'll probably be too busy to go back to Yosemite but when I do you'll be the first to see the new photos.
- The History section is an attempt to explore Yosemite's history in a scholarly fashion. The Chronology section is a list of major events in Yosemite's documented history with some explanation or further detail behind the event listings. The Bibliography section is where readers can go to find historical sources that have been used in my research. More importantly, this section exists for the private researcher to have an index of primary and secondary sources on Yosemite's history. The Historiography section is a scholarly document relating to the concept of Yosemite that has appeared in the writings of historians and anthropologists. One of the main issues I tackle is that Yosemite has caught the attention of non-historian professionals as opposed to historians themselves, a much more valued audience since the historical literature on Yosemite is rather thin.
- The Articles sections is kind of a miscellany section for non-historical writings. Such examples might include analysis of Yosemite Indian mythology, general topics relating to Yosemite or its Indians, or basically anything I feel is pertinant to write about that includes Yosemite. Kind of a free-for-all but hopefully entertaining and interesting to read.
- Links, like the pictures section, is pretty self-explanatory.
